All Christians are welcome at the Lord’s table–it belongs to Christ, not to us.
Communion is offered at every Sunday service. We understand this sacrament, instituted by our Lord, to be an integral part of the spiritual nurture intended for everyone to experience in worship. We seek to honor Christian conscience by offering both wine and grape juice and both leavened and unleavened bread, recognizing that there are many ways to understand what scripture says about Holy Communion. Please don’t be concerned about whether you are standing in the right place, saying the right words, or doing the right actions. Come to to table and be fed!
Children are welcome too.
All baptized children who are able to take solid food are also welcome to receive communion at St. Thomas. Children are also nurtured by this spiritual food, offered by our Lord and infused with grace, yielding love, forgiveness, welcome, belonging, joy, and much more. Whether children receive the sacrament or a blessing from the pastor is entirely up to the parents. This is also part of our honoring of Christian conscience.
Classes are offered each year for children of any age who wish to gain a fuller understanding of communion, and the classes may either inform a practice in which children already participate or prepare them for their first time receiving communion. We issue special invitations at the age of 10 (or grade 5).
